Meeting 2012-11-20: A Forensic Look At Construction Management

Please join us for our upcoming Chapter meeting on November 20th at the Red Lion River Inn. The program descriptions are below. Please see the attached file for greater details.

Presentation: Forensic Look at Construction Management
The industry standard of construction does not place an emphasis on delivering a quality standard that is acceptable. High costs of labor and materials vs. incomplete design, inexperienced project management, supervision, and job-site performance leads to poor building performance and dissatisfied owners.

This program will cover the forensics in construction management to provide the complete project management services to the stakeholders, contract administration, program review, project development, critical path method (CPM) scheduling, estimating, construction administration, and project closeout.

Presenter: Paul Shelton, President of Construction Management and Forensics

**In addition, Paul will be discussing a 2nd Harvest project that he was directly involved in. So in honor of this and with Thanksgiving around the corner we ask that you bring a food donation to the meeting as we will have a food barrel available from 2nd Harvest.

Meeting 2012-10-16: Life on Live TV

Presentation: Life on Live TV – From Brainstorm to Broadcast

The goal of every broadcast project is to produce a professional product for the viewer while making fiscal sense for the company.  From the time an idea for a telecast takes shape, to the moment the red light goes off, the production of a live television event is a continuous exercise in attention to detail.  Managing the many moving parts takes a massive team effort to ensure each project is successful.

Meeting 2012-09-18

Speaker: Marc Dahlstrom from North by Northwest Productions.

Presentation: Managing Art and Commerce
The process of making a feature film is a delicate battle between creative desires and financial realities. Typically, creative needs are fluid and rapidly changing - the creative mind has no boundaries. Conversely, financial needs tend to be fixed and unchanging - the total project budget is a fixed amount and there isn't more money to feed the creative unknowns. It is the responsibility of the Line Producer to find a balance and do everything possible to allow creative desires to be met within the financial realities.

Meeting 2012-05-15 Amygdala Hijacks and Other Things that Cause Project Train Wrecks

Presentation:  Amygdala Hijacks and Other Things that Cause Project Train Wrecks

This is a brief but pointed presentation about project management disasters, what causes them and things that we might do to avoid them.  It will focus on concepts that are generally not in textbooks nor taught in class, but can wreak havoc on your projects.   It will also suggest a future world where project managers learn more about, and adopt emotional intelligence concepts into their management style and plans.  Be prepared to participate, laugh a little, but think a lot about Amygdala Hijacks, The Donner Blues, Truth Changelings and other events that do happen in the real world and that are important to know in carrying our effective Project Management
